The Wonderful Enlightening Stories of The Courage Room

It take Courage to believe, receive, share and pursue your dreams.

  • The Vineyard/ Bill Johnson/ The Second Roar Dream ~ Bob Hartley (August 2007)

I dreamed that the Vineyard will be restored in Portland. Glenn Schroeder is up there, I knew he had moved to a city in Oregon, I didn’t know where. I called Glenn and asked him: “Are you ready for me to come, after 10 years”? He said yes. I said: “If I come, it will be more than a friendship time with you. I want to be with your leaders.” Glenn didn’t have a great taste about the prophetic and I had had a dream that he was in a blue house (which he did live in a blue house). Behind Glenn’s blue house is this log that said 1988. He was sitting on it drinking beer. In the dream I did not tell him that he was about to lean back and break his neck like Eli. It is just such an extraordinary dream about his life and his journey. I worked there till late at night and I get to that part which is one of the crescendos, there were a number of them about Parthenon and how it applied to him because he was one of John’s most famous sons. So he goes and his wife has been weeping the whole time. So she tells me to come and we go down into the woods with a flashlight, a rural area wooded. There is a log down there with beer bottles. (there was a refrigerator down there with beer!) I told him the Vineyard is starting to be restored right here.

Later, Glen has a couple of major leaders come to meet with me and it is so touching. Probably two or there years later, Lance Pitlock and a group of leaders, also ask me to come in. We meet in the place where John Wimber had had his first home group. Christy Wimber was there, this also touched my heart. I went around telling them the “Campfire Stories” of their lives. They all took off their shoes and danced!

When I receive these dreams, I must wait for the right timing and I do see things unfold.

Then I see the Vineyard guys (Isaiah 56) They had gotten “Happy in the House of Prayer”. It was full of Joy, and I got to be part of it.

“They came down and all the beasts of the field divorced”. Many times you will get a vision in the House of Prayer only to come down the mountain and “sacrifice the vision on the alter of circumstances”. It says “They all became greedy for gain” which translates into: “I will make a living and die”. At that time in my life, I was being really challenged because by back was feeling bad. And the Lord speaks to me about a “Second Roar”. (This was for the Vineyard)

I was in the prayer Room and Satan comes in as an “angel of light”; not this dark, oppressive thinking but this invitation into bondage. (Isaiah 36) “We will give you your own fig tree, your own land. Just hide in the corner and justify it”.

The Lord tells me: “No Bob, it is time for your “second roar”. You had a first roar, but now there is a second roar with wisdom and courage that works by Love”. He then reminds me of the time I was in Zimbabwe where there was a  young girl named Deborah.  She roared from the inside out.

And the Lord shows me Bill Johnson and how I would go up and down the coast for years. The Lord told me that I made the second roar go up all the way up the Coast of California. The Patriarch of the Second Roar is Bill Johnson. I saw that Bill will help restore the Vineyard as well. Bill Johnson is a Papa with Faith and a Roar. The Lord talked to me about a whole generation that wouldn’t have to roar the first time and lose it; because they would start with the “Second Roar”.

  • Jack & The Beanstalk Dream / Story ~ Bob Hartley (August 2007 )

I dreamed not a small dream, but a magnificent dream, right after John Wimber died. This dream was beyond one of those 3D pictures, it was really inscribed on my soul.

My dream: John Wimber was sitting at the end of the stage with his feet hanging over, very patriarchal, and thousands of men and women were in the room, and they were John’s “sons”. John’s son’s were to carry on. John told them: “Only the first part of the mission was accomplished while I was here. I was Jack and I went up the beanstalk.” He had risked everything and the mother was scared in the back room wanting security and comfort, to live and die with physical provision. This would have satisfied her, but not really. So Jack trades the cow for the golden seed and climbs up the stalk. He takes back the heart but also a hearing aid. (Jer.33:3) The promise that there would be an abundance of healing and hearing. In my dream John Wimber said: “It was just the first part not necessarily the completion of the message. Now that I’m gone, they were going further into the passage of Jer 33.” I did not know at the time that, Jer.33 was John Wimber’s life passage.

The Abundance of Hearing, Healing, Happiness and Joy. As Bill Johnson says; “He is a Good God in a Good Mood.” The next step was the abundance of heart. They would be shepherds that would care for the flock and were after God’s own Heart. John goes on in the dream to say that the second part of the vision was for the heart of the mother to come forth. Getting her out of this dark room. It was always about getting her out. When she saw some healing she would start to hear and start to believe again. She would cross over the Jordan, from a place where she just survived to a place where she was taking territory. The Mother represented the ‘Mother Church’ and he said the whole church. (both Catholic and Protestants) John to his “sons”; “I fear you will go into the ‘Place of the Parthenon.’ (A Parthenon is a place of Greek thinking, compartmentalized limited thinking that God is in only in one place at one time, hid beyond theology and intellectualism.)

It takes Courage to release Cheer & Joy that strengthens our hearts and increases our confidence in Jesus, no matter what the circumstances.

  • Dream/Story: “With Jesus inside the Joy Room” (10-15-2015) with  Bob Hartley & Teri Johnson

Bob Hartley: “I dreamed that God took me into the “Joy Room” (My Office) inside “The Yellow House of Wholeness”.

Jesus: “This is a place where I give you back your sense of humor, which is the greatest character attribute you gain during the “valley seasons” where he sets a table right in the valley of his abundant presence. Where you get to eat off of it and be like Joseph, fruitful in the place of affliction: The tree that bears fruit in all seasons. You’ll never have enough character or integrity or backbone to brag about. People think that is the chief gold from trials but what did they come out of the upper room of trial with?  Inexplicable JOY that says; We trust! What I want you to boast in is that you know Me, My Loving Kindness, and you come into a childlike joy, sense of humor, and fun that says you trust Me in all things”. And when this happens .  .  . righteous behaviors will manifest!”

God Changed My Face: God took me into the Joy Room & He told that He would always take me there when I needed to change my face.

Childhood Memory: I remembered that when I was a kid; when my sister would be angry, my mom would tell her to go to her room & change her face. The Lord told me that this was my sister’s “Joy Room” where He would always meet her & help her change her face.

Joy for the Body of Christ: Then God took me to the greater body of Christ.  He showed me the “Door of Joy” is swinging wide open for them to walk into. And it is time for no more of this “Misery Christianity.” We are to remember the God of the “Fifth Scene” who is laughing! (Lamentations 3:17-18)

The Value of a Sense of Humor: While sitting at my desk in my office, I was stressing and in fear over finances, business, etc. And I heard Him say: “You’ll make more money if you call everybody sweetie & honey when you’re stressed out.” I asked God: “What are You talking about?” And He said: ‘You’ll make more money with humor.

A New Kind of Leadership with the Right Kind of Tenderness:  Tell the Body of Christ that I want a different kind of leadership to come forth. That even if they are wounded at their core, they can see it as a momentary light affliction and be happy and joyful. It's just right considering all and for the sake of the people. Time to walk away from being sour puss's and misery Christianity and be hopeful (confident expectation in the Goodness of God), considering all I've done” (He said it is better for me to be joyful then tender right now, because joyful was will release the right kind of tenderness).

Then I saw the Lord crowning many with JOY.

Teri Johnson:
As I read Bob’s dream/encounter with the Lord, I immediately saw a very sweet & joyous vision of Jesus with a beautiful big smile on His face. Jesus was the “Good Humor Ice Cream Man” and He was giving out ice cream bars to the children & they were very very happy!
Oh Taste & See the Lord is Good!

I looked up “sour puss” in Webster’s Dictionary:
Sour Puss = a “Kill Joy”
The enemy is out to kill our joy, let’s not let our countenance agree with the devil. We cannot reflect the Glorious Goodness of God inside of us with a Sour Puss Face!

God wants the facial expression of the body of Christ; to be a beautiful Jesus reflection; so that we can make a everlasting impression to lift souls out of demonic depression.

K.I.S.S. “Keep It Simple Saints”: He is calling us to simply believe & expect for God’s Goodness to show up in the land we live in. He wants us to be overwhelmed, over loaded, & distracted……by Him. Overwhelmed by His Goodness, loaded down by His Weighty & Glorious Presence, & distracted by our beloved Jesus.God is extremely serious about……… JOY, Serious Joy! We need to display the fruit of the Tree of Life that we freely feast on. Seriousness is not listed in the Fruits of the Spirit however, JOY IS! (Gal 5:22)

Joy is essential for us to be able to enJOY this abundant life God has for us.
A Spoonful of Sugar helps the medicine go down; So let us walk in the wholeness He has for by;

  • Receiving His Good Medicine of Laughter (Proverbs 17:22)
  • Being strengthened by His Joy (Neh. 8:10)
  • Hearing His Songs of Joy over us (Zeph 3:17)
  • Refuse the crown of thorns the enemy attempts to put on you.
  • Receive the beautiful crown of Joy God has for us. (1Th 2:19)
  • He crowns us with His Loving Kindness & Tender Mercies (Ps 103:4)
  • Stand tall & wear His Crown (Is 35:10) walking forward & taking ground with a bounce in our step & a smile on our faces, confidently running this race & full of Joy because of His Grace!

  • The Manna stopped falling – The Children of Israel – Joshua 5:12

For 40 years they had provision from heaven through the manna that fell. It was like having a steady job with the government for 40 years and you were provided for, but then they told you that they aren’t going to give you a pension, or suddenly you are fired from your job, lose an inheritance, an investment goes bad, or any other number of things that have been very relevant issues in our economy. This feeling of not knowing where your next meal is going to come from or how you are going to have the money to provide for yourself or your family.

This was what was happening with the children of Israel when the manna stopped falling from heaven. God had promised them that he was going to take care of them and then suddenly they are sitting on the edge of the promise land and nothing comes down from heaven. The wives and children are sitting there terrified because they have stored nothing up, but the Lord says to them that they must go into the land and make the land produce.

Most issues in the Body of Christ are associated with Courage. This is a constant theme in Haggai and Isaiah 56, they made decisions out of fear and lack of courage and it caused them to go backwards right when they were right there standing before the door of supernatural miracles and provision.

These children of Israel were the ones who had the courage to go into the promised land and work to have the land produce and provide for them in even greater ways then when the manna was falling.

  • The Polyanna Story – Calling Forth Voices of Hope (2013)
by Johnny Enlow and Bob Hartley and scribed by Michael Sullivant:

There is”Silver Lining” in the storm clouds of life. Some of them were Bible characters like Barnabas and Ruth. Others were real people from history like Winston Churchill and Norman Vincent Peale. Some were people unknown to the world, but extremely hopeful people Bob has known in life. Others were fictional characters like Pollyanna…though Bob did not realize that her legs became crippled in the story.

The Lord Jesus then said to Bob, “If you added together all the hope in the lives of these people, it would only represent one percent of the hope that I have in My heart for the cities and nations of the earth and also for the challenging situations of your life. I have also called you to become more hopeful than all these people put together.

“It is a new season when there will be grace for the ‘double portion' of hope. And even beyond this, it will be a season of 10x multiplication. There will be unprecedented manifestations of righteousness, peace and joy attended by endless celebrations. Hopes and promises that have been deferred and assaulted by a spirit of negation will be restored.”

In this dream, Bob was also reminded of an event in his history when he was in the skybox of a professional sports arena. He found himself focused on an empty table that he expected to be laden with food. However, behind and all around him were six other tables filled with amazing and exquisite delicacies. The Lord said to him, “Do not be fixated on or distracted by the table that is empty. Open your eyes and see all the tables of plenty.”

He knew it was a time like when the children of Israel were exiting the wilderness and entering the Promised Land. The manna ceased, but they were called to now eat the fruit that the land produced (see Joshua 5:12). The Holy Spirit used this encounter to instruct him to not lose hope when one area of life seems barren, but rather to look around for, focus upon, and be thankful for other areas where the grace of God is at work during any particular season of life.

When Bob and Johnny Enlow (pictured here) caught up in person last month, Bob gave Johnny a date that he knew by the Holy Spirit was somehow significant to both Johnny and Bob's above spiritual encounter. That date was June 1st. (To view a recent word published by Johnny Enlow on the Elijah List click here.) As it turned out, this date was Johnny's 54th birthday and the day of the wedding of his daughter, Promise, over which Johnny officiated. The Holy Spirit is referring to Isaiah 54, and that it is the Father's pleasure for us to be married again to His promises over which we have had our hope deferred, but which will now come to pass and cause our territory to be enlarged.

Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes…Fear not, for you will not be ashamed; be not confounded, for you will not be disgraced; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name… (Isaiah 54:2, 4-5a).

Johnny's “Pollyanna” Encounter

June 1st was also the day that Johnny finished his notes for his final sermon as the senior pastor of Day Star Church in Atlanta, “God's Pollyannas”. (He and his wife Elizabeth and their family have now relocated to the Los Angeles area to carry on their at-large ministry.) It was during this conversation that Johnny first shared with Bob his parallel prophetic message regarding Pollyanna.

From time to time in the course of sharing a message with God's people, Johnny would preface certain statements that hold great divine promise for this age by stating, “I'm not just being a ‘Pollyanna' when I say this…” Being “Pollyannaish” has become a well-known negative label to describe someone who expresses hope that is viewed as unrealistic in the eyes of her/his surrounding culture. Being “Pollyannaish” is to process life in an overly simplistic way. It implies that such a person is naive and in denial. She/he is viewed as being excessively cheerful or foolishly optimistic.

Recently when he made this qualifying phrase, the Lord responded suddenly and clearly to Johnny and said, “What's wrong with Pollyanna? I like her. I want a ‘Pollyanna' people. I want a ‘Pollyanna' Bride!” This stunned him and sent him on a course to research the story of Pollyanna and to look to the Scriptures for confirmation.

The essence of the story revolves around the orphaned daughter, Pollyanna, of a missionary family whose wise and loving father taught her to play the “glad game” as a way of life before he passed away. This game involves continually looking for something to be glad about in every situation one faces in life and to focus one's attention upon that good thing.

The carefree and vivacious Pollyanna is sent to live with her proper, stern and legalistic Aunt Polly in a small town in Vermont. Pollyanna's cheerful ways are an affront to her aunt and her aunt treats her quite harshly. Despite this opposition, Pollyanna continually plays the “glad game” and teaches others to do the same. She endears herself to many townspeople, old and young alike, and her infectious joy quietly spreads among them and makes an indelible mark upon them. When Pollyanna has an accident that paralyzes her legs, her own hope is deeply challenged and she becomes temporarily depressed.

However, Pollyanna reaps the good that she has sown and the townspeople respond to her situation with great love and kindness bringing cheer back into her heart. She even wins over her stubborn Aunt Polly whose heart is melted by the joyful love of her young niece who proves to be wise beyond her years. Finally, Pollyanna regains the use of her legs and she becomes more grateful and hopeful than ever.

Of course, we know from the Bible that God loves to use stories and parables to reveal His heart to us. So, it shouldn't surprise us that the Holy Spirit might use the 100th anniversary of the tale of Pollyanna (which neither Bob or Johnny knew at the time of their encounters) to speak a fresh word of prophecy to the Body of Christ. God has always enjoyed confounding the wisdom of the wise by simple childlike truths.

For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men…But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God (1 Corinthians 1:25, 27-29).

Is it Biblical to be Like Pollyanna?

But is it Biblical to be “Pollyannaish”? Consider these quite serious and clear apostolic injunctions.

…be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:18b-21).

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God…Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these thing. (Philippians 4:4, 6, 8).

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him (James 1:2-5).

This Greek word for “count”, heggemia, in the above passage involves the concepts of “lead, rule and command”. In other words, we have been given grace from God to take authority over our response to trials in order to obtain the correct divine perspective on our situation. This is why James says to ask for and expect wisdom (divine perspective) to come to us in the context of trials. This will ensure for us the positive results and outcomes that our good Father intends through any challenging situation or circumstance. This is pretty clear “Pollyannaish” thinking and living!

Paul and Silas modeled this extremely hopeful and unashamed way of processing negative life situations very clearly in the account of their imprisonment in Philippi. Also, notice both the amazing divine and human responses in this circumstance as you read on in the account.

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were unfastened (Acts 16:25-26).

Many people will say that this way of life is not “realistic”. But is moping, complaining, grumbling, and being oppressed with an impending sense of doom and gloom honestly more “real” than having hope – when the truly good and living God is always active in our world and on our side?

How has despair, worry and anxiety been working for us anyway? “Keeping it real”, from the angle of some, will only keep us in defeat!

The Holy Spirit said to Johnny, “When you magnify God deliberately enough to be able to see and then praise Him in the most adverse conditions…a dunamis power of God can be released to burst into circumstances and even liberate the ‘prisoners' around you.”

The world is watching and we should never waste an opportunity to “see” and praise God in a contradictory situation. These apostles had gone on a mission trip and were rewarded with persecution instead of the expected blessing or breakthroughYet, they magnified God in their prison until they saw Him. Paul and Silas' “Pollyannish” spirit released the freedom of God's Kingdom not only into their circumstances, but it also loosed the observing prisoners to bring salvation to many. Paul and Silas viewed themselves as the “prisoners of hope” prophesied by Zechariah more than the prisoners of men.

…and He shall speak peace to the nations; His rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you also, because of the Blood of My covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double (Zechariah 9:10b-12a).

In the mysterious quantum world, inanimate matter behaves differently depending on if it is being observed and who is observing it. Particles are activated in various ways by the power of observation. What if the living God's invisible power can simply be activated for good by the anointed observation of His sons and daughters?

Jesus said that unless we are born again we cannot see the Kingdom of God (see John 3:3). But the implication is that if we are born from above, we are enabled to perceive the Kingdom of God, thereby acknowledging and anticipating the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit. The Kingdom of God is in the Holy Spirit (see Romans 14:17).

We are challenged in the New Testament to see God at work in the midst of our trials so that amazingly positive outcomes are secured. Isn't this what Paul and Silas “saw” in the darkest hour with bleeding backs and bound in the prison stocks? The Holy Spirit is promising us that in these days we are going to begin to “see” the invisible God at work in ways that we have not recognized before. This spiritual insight is what distinguishes this “Holy Spirit optimism” from the mere “power of positive thinking”.

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).

Of course, we also “see Him” in the midst of the many blessings He provides for us as well.

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow(James 1:17).

Conclusion: Voices of Hope Rising Up

  • The invisible God becomes activated when we “see” Him.
    • Look for the silver lining (redemptive purpose) in every cloud (trial).
    • Good things are always going on, even when we're in a test of hope or faith.
    • Ask “Where is God working?” and magnify that. Not, “Where or why is God not apparently working?”
    • If we see what God is doing and thank Him for this, He will cause His blessings to multiply and will go to work in those yet untouched or unmoved arenas.
    • Like with the account of the loaves and fishes, offer to God the “little” breakthrough we do have and trust Him to miraculously bless and multiply it.
    • Praise and gratitude pave the way for the release of greater power.

As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen (1 Peter 4:10-11).

In this divine interchange, Johnny was aware that the Holy Spirit was using “Pollyanna” as an inspired word play on poly (manifold) and anna (grace) or “multicolored grace”. God wants a Pollyanna people who will have a courageous and childlike spirit that praises Him greatly for all His goodness, smack in the face of the evil despair, pessimism and cynicism of this world. They will not be ashamed to show their fullest and truest colors that display the multi-faceted genius and nature of the living God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, who freely takes the things of the Father and the Son and reveals them to us.

The “Pollyannas” of God will be winsome and compelling hope reformers who usher in a New Renaissance of a divine kind into all the seven mountains – the primary spheres of influence upon our societies. (The first Renaissance was limited in its scope by its humanistic center.) They will not do this as worldly sophisticates or protesters of evil, but they will disarm evil through a divine innocence, presence, and power that only the Holy Spirit can impart to and through human beings.

In Bob's encounter, the Lord also revealed to him that we have now crossed over into an hour in God's purposes when millions of dormant Hope Reformers – God's “Pollyannas” – will be raised up and activated by simple words of prophetic declaration and the laying on of hands through those who have become “voices of hope”. Those so activated will also become “voices of hope” to many others in need.

Again and again, Bob has seen a Royal Pathway of Hope that the Lord is calling His children to traverse. Through the years, our respective ministries have been developing materials that are tools designed to set people upon and keep them advancing along this pathway. It involves developing a daily lifestyle of Spirit-filled adoration, Spirit-led inquiry and Spirit-inspired confessions of who we are in Christ, who He is in us, and who He is in all the earth.
